Nestlé Purina’s commitment to sustainability—as a company and as individuals—goes beyond the word. We walk the talk.
We continue to make strides in reducing our carbon footprint, and we’re not done yet.
When it comes to making our high-quality products, we work to source ingredients responsibly and reduce energy, water, and waste from our operations. Our products are thoughtfully prepared at our factories, where more than 95 percent of electricity used comes from investments in renewable sources. We’re on track to hit 100 percent renewable electricity across all our manufacturing facilities by the end of 2025. Our factories also maintain zero waste for disposal, which means all discarded material is sent to credible vendors that specialize in recovering the ecological and/or economic value of the material, which commonly include recycling, energy recovery, and compost. In 2020, our St. Louis headquarters diverted one million pounds of waste from landfill—that’s equivalent to the weight of one Boeing 747 plane or the weight of more than 142,800 Yorkie dogs! When it comes to ingredients, Nestlé Purina is helping fund the work of suppliers and sustainability partners in the regions where we source our ingredients in the U.S. to scale regenerative agriculture practices on farms, which results in healthier soil and carbon sequestration.
Beyond the manufacturing of our products, we’re also working to optimize our packaging and transport our products using highly efficient methods. Currently, 90 percent of our packaging is designed for recycling. Regardless of material—aluminum cans, plastic jugs, or shrink wrap, we provide guidance on how and where our pet owners consumers can dispose of their empty product containers.
